Our Story
Our journey began in 2020 when a small group of friends started cleaning local parks and trails as a way to get outside and do some good during the pandemic. We quickly realized a lot of the trash we were picking up was recyclable and decided to sort and clean it before bringing it to our local waste facility. What happened next drove us to launch GGE and work to change the way trash is handled in Canada. We noticed our carefully sorted recyclables were being thrown into piles with other household garbage and after asking some of the facility staff what was going on, learned the heartbreaking truth that very little of Canada's plastic is actually re-used. Our founders saw the need for immediate action and formed GGE to help current and future generations by developing better infrastructure for recyclable waste.
Community Clean Up Events
GGE was founded on the belief that even the smallest actions can make a huge impact. Our team of devoted staff and volunteers are committed to regularly cleaning trash from parks, playgrounds, and roadsides in the local area and most importantly, making sure that trash is disposed of or recycled correctly, All of the plastic, glass, and other re-usable materials that we pick up are cleaned, sorted, and recycled at our facility instead of ending up in the landfill.
We've Only Just Begun
Our community clean up operation is extremely important and that won't ever change, but we know that the real problem starts at the source. Our goal is to change the way plastic is recycled and work to eliminate single use-plastics all-together. We're working towards building a bigger facility and hope to be able to break-down and use the plastic we collect to create household items, fully closing the circle on recyclable waste. With the help of our donors and volunteers, we have no doubt our brilliant team of forward-thinkers can make that goal a reality,
